Pug Mixers are similar to ribbon blender except for the blade configuration. These mixers are also called as the paddle mixer. They are used for numerous processes including compounding, fine mixing, dispersing, suspending, emulsifying, deaerating, tempering, accelerating chemical or physical reactions, granulating, breaking down agglomerates.

The continuous or "twin-spiral" mixer consists of a horizontal, stationary, half-cylinder with revolving helical ribbons placed on a central shaft so as to move materials from one end to the other as the shaft and ribbon rotate inside. Since material travel is from one end to the other, either end may be used for discharge.
